Highland Park resident David Hochfelder firmly believes that the
current political system needs to be fixed and the Green Party is
the only viable third option to bring about change.
"For me there was no choice but to go to the Green Party," he said.
"You can start with a grassroots movement at Rutgers and build
something important, a third party."
Hochfelder, an assistant research professor at the University,
believes in banning pay-to-play politics to stop the political
corruption he sees. The only way to stop the corruption is to "get
involved now to prevent only the interests of corporate sponsors
from being heard," he said.
Election reform, affordable housing and maintaining a clean
environment are issues people care about on all levels - local or
national, he said.
As a Green, Hochfelder is also looking to support other candidates
from his party that are running for other offices in the state.
The Green Party is attempting to find a way to build a sustainable
third party that wins elections against its Republican and
Democratic counterparts to give voters in the state a new option
that may represent their interests more fully.
To do so, elections must be fair and accurate so that every vote
counts, Hochfelder said.
