Health Initiative for New Jersey

New Jersey need not follow the federal example and must be a leader in development and full implementation of a Single-Payer Universal Health Insurance plan with the right of Freedom of Medical Choice for all of our residents.  A single provider eliminates multiple insurance company administrations with their concomitant overhead.

The federal government has fallen behind more enlightened democratic nations by not providing its citizens guaranteed health coverage as a basic right.  Currently, an individual must either have health insurance as a benefit from employment, dependent, opposite-sex spouse in most instances or as a same-sex or opposite-sex partner in domestic partnership benefits program to which a tax is applied.  Yes, health insurance is available at rates that are out of reach for most Americans.  Others are given limited benefits with little or no say in the choice of provider based on age, disability or income from various government agencies.  And, of course, various charitable health providers make a small contribution in a hodgepodge health system for all citizens and residents.

Benjamin Rush, M.D., signer of the Declaration of Independence and

Leading Allopath During the Founding of America

“The Constitution of this republic should make special provisions for medical freedom as well as religious freedom. To restrict the art of healing to one class of man and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science.  All such laws are un-American and despotic.”

This basic right to health insurance will not solve all needs for New Jerseyeans; additional health issues  needing focus are the following:

 Chelation Therapy

The New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners wants to eliminate this safe and effective treatment from the protocols medical doctors may reply upon in their practice.  This and other alternative treatments must be available as a choice for patients.

 Professional Nutritional Advice

While you may as a friend give advice to your associates on nutrition, your health care provider may be restricted and denied freedom of speech in New Jersey.  No law must be passed restricting only supporters of a particular philosophy with a license of nutritionist.

Fluoridation of drinking water

Yet again our state’s drinking water is being threatened with an element that has never been proven to be effective in the prevention of tooth decay.  This element has never been demonstrated to be necessary for any system of the body and is treated as a hazardous waste product by the Environmental Protection Agency.  Clean pure drinking water with no adulteration is a goal.

Licensure of Naturopaths and insurance reimbursement for

 Homeopaths and the remedies provided

Naturopaths are currently licensed in several states in the west with Connecticut among others in the east.  Our residents are denied this health care professional option able to diagnose and prescribe alternative treatment if indicated.  Physicians while able to practice as homeopaths in New Jersey are not properly recognized and homeopathic remedies are denied coverage.  These professionals with their tools for supporting and creating health must enjoy freedom and reimbursement in New Jersey.

Holistic Dentists

These holistic dentists who avoid toxic materials and see patients as whole beings are being challenged for recommending against the use of toxic materials such as mercury amalgam.  These health professionals need to administer to their patients freely without threat of closure.

This list is not exhaustive and with our voices other issues in the legislature will be heard on such matters as genetically modified foods on the shelves without labeling and products irradiated and eaten without full knowledge for consumers.
