District 21 Greens Support Single-Payer Universal Health Insurance with the right of Freedom of Medical Choice for all New Jersey residents
-- The candidates for the 21st Legislative District running for the Green Party of New Jersey support the state developing and implementing its own Single-Payer Universal Health Insurance plan due to the inability of the federal government to guarantee this basic right for its citizens and residents.
“There is no longer justification for New Jersey or any state to allow any of its residents to suffer with the current private health insurance plans not allowing everyone coverage,” said Ryan Reyes, candidate for Assembly. “These plans restrict coverage depending upon employment and the plan chosen by the employer in most cases.”
Teresa Migliore-DiMatteo running for Senate added, “Others who may be covered by current private insurance are those such as dependents, married spouses and same-sex or opposite-sex partners in a domestic partnership benefits program to which a tax is applied. And, individual private health insurance rates are out of reach for most Americans.”
New Jerseyeans may also be receiving some limited benefits based on age, disability or income from various government agencies in the current hodgepodge health care system. “Our concern is also that any new and improved system of health care not be limited to one philosophy and that Freedom of Medical Choice be established as a right for those seeking alternative choices,” said George DeCarlo, candidate for Assembly.
